Ekurhuleni metro police said on Monday that a 65-year-old man had been arrested after becoming angry at council officials and throwing their computers around.

Inspector Mveli Nhlapo said the man had gone to the city council to complain about excessive electricity bills for two properties he owned in the Baxa section of Tembisa.

"He became angry and damaged computers of the council by pulling out the plugs and throwing them around," said Nhlapo.

"He fought and said he wanted his issue to be attended to."

Security officials had tried to restrain him, but he had continued his fight until metro police arrested him.

The man would face a charge of malicious damage to property, Nhlapo said.

He said the man was being asked to pay R12 000 for the electricity used by tenants at his homes.

Nhlapo advised residents not to cause havoc at council offices where people were employed to serve them. - Sapa
